BUILD YOUR
OWN 500CC

2019

'Build Your Own 500cc' is part of a larger collection of interactives that I developed for Silverstone Museum at Silverstone Circuit. As a triple screen, three PC networked installation, it gives visitors an opportunity to build a 1940s - 1950s era 500cc race car, and then see how it performs on the Silverstone track.

Two touch screens allow one or two players to each build a custom 500cc car in their garage, choosing from and learning about different key components such as chassis, wheels, suspension, brakes, engine and bodywork materials. Each choice will affect the speed, weight, handling and safety of the car.

When a car has been fully assembled, it moves from the garage to the race track (shown on a large wall mounted screen in front of both touch screens). The car drives a lap of the period Silverstone circuit to see how well it performs. It might set a new lap record, or it may not complete a full lap at all. Players don't actually get to drive the car on the track themselves, but they can see how well the car performs, based on their choices.

When there are no cars on the race track, this screen shows a screensaver. When the race track is being used, it has a split screen layout (top and bottom), and can show two cars simultaneously, or just one car on it's own.
