GENGHIS: RISE OF
THE MONGOL KHANS

2017

I developed two interactives for the touring exhibition 'Genghis: Rise of the Mongol Khans', which first opened in 2017 at the National Military Museum, Netherlands.

Both interactives were developed to be multi-language, and for the Netherlands exhibition users can choose between Dutch and English. The interactives were designed and developed to be easily adaptable in the future to allow for more, and different languages to be added, as and when required by each new exhibition location.

'House of Khans' is installed on two separate touch screens and is presented in a playing card style. Visitors choose one of the great Khans from history and have to answer questions about them. At the end of the game, players find out which questions they answered correctly, and are presented with short facts about each question.

'The Mongol Empire' is a multi-touch table that allows up to eight users to simultaneously explore a map of the Mongol Empire. Displayed across four screens, the installation is approx 90" in size and shows Asia, Eastern Europe and The Middle East. There are eight user interface (UI) 'stations' around the map, each providing access to the same options and information. Visitors can discover the key people in Mongol history; some of these were explorers and their journeys are shown on the map. There are four major military campaigns to explore, each broken down into bite size chapters and animated across the map. There is also a comprehensive timeline that covers the key events. When visitors view content that links onto the map, each UI station has it's own accent colour that helps reinforce the link to that content.

In addition to the software development, I led the on-site installation and client handover at the National Military Museum in the Netherlands.

These interactives were developed for Nomad Exhibitions.
