GREEN HOWARDS
SOLDIER STORIES
2019
In 2019, the Medal Room at The Green Howards Museum, Richmond, North Yorkshire reopened having undergone a redesign to improve the displays and to tell the stories behind the medals.
A key part of the exhibition is a large, portrait touch screen installation that tells the stories of 21 soldiers who have been awarded the George Cross or Victoria Cross. The stories range from the Crimean War to WW2, and are told through a combination of illustration, and written accounts of each soldiers early life before war, and their life during and after the war they fought in.
The soldiers and stories are navigated through an elegant menu that shows the medals for all 21 soldiers, as well as highlighting the individual George and Victoria Cross medals. The layout of the medals on the interface matches an adjacent display cabinet that contains the real medals.
