RICHARD III
SKELETON

2013

On Monday 4th February 2013, a news announcement was made that confirmed the skeleton found beneath a Leicester car park was that of English king Richard III. Four days later on Friday 8th February, the temporary exhibition 'Richard III: Leicester’s Search for a King' opened to the public at the Guildhall in Leicester.

Working on behalf of Mather & Co, I designed and developed the digital centrepiece of the exhibition, a multi-touch table interactive that allows two people to simultaneously explore and learn about the skeletal remains. There are 19 points of interest across the skeleton, providing access to approx 50 photos, supported by text information.

Prior to 4th February, no images or information regarding the skeleton had been made public (or provided to me), so I designed and developed the software prototype using a placeholder skeleton photo. After the news and photos were made public, I was then supplied with the photos and content so that I could finalise the design and development of the software, and travel to Leicester to install and test the software at the Guildhall, ready for the exhibition to open to the public a few days later.

The temporary exhibition has now been replaced with a new, purpose built exhibition.
