THE CANTERBURY
JOURNEY
2021
The Canterbury Journey is a large scale project at Canterbury Cathedral, designed to achieve a radical transformation in the accessibility and sustainability of the Cathedral. Part of this includes a new Visitor Centre, and I developed two touch screen interactives for this.
'History & Architecture' provides a snapshot look at the key changes to the architecture of the Cathedral, and the events that shaped those changes. Using a touch screen, visitors can explore nine different 3D models of the Cathedral, all arranged chronologically. The key architectural changes are highlighted and explained. The onscreen view can be toggled between architecture and history, with the history view giving access to a timeline of key events and images that have shaped the Cathedral.
'Cathedral Themes' explores four different topics: topical issues such as refugees and the environment, the crafts involved in maintaining the Cathedral, sculpture, and pilgrimage. Using a touch screen, visitors can explore a series of cards. When a card is selected, it opens up to reveal a short video and text information about a particular topic.
