TRANSLINK
ANDROID APP

2013

I was commissioned by Elevator Promotional Marketing, Belfast, to develop a marketing and promotional Android survey app for their client, Translink, who are the main public transport provider for Northern Ireland.

The app was not available through a public app store, but was preinstalled on a limited number of Android tablets that were used around Northern Ireland to engage with members of the public.

The app contains a short, multiple-choice questionnaire related to travel and getting around. Users select one or more answers to each question. After each question, a short related fact is presented. After all questions have been answered, users can optionally choose to enter their personal contact details to enter a prize draw. There is an option to also add another persons contact details without them having to answer the survey questions. All personal data is encrypted and stored in an SQLite database.

The app contains a hidden, pin code protected admin screen that allows the database to be extracted and / or erased. This screen also allows the app to be customised with a location name. The location is automatically appended to all stored personal data so the client knows where each data entry took place. Extracted personal data can be transmitted to, and decrypted by a Windows desktop application that I also developed to accompany this Android app.

In addition to developing the app, I also setup and tested all the Android tablets.
